Weston RTC Statement Regarding Political Violence

January 2021

Statement from the Weston Republican Town Committee

The past 10 months have been as upsetting, and unsettling, as any period in U.S.  history.

The coronavirus came to our shores and quickly grew to a global pandemic that  continues to kill and mutate. Racial tension has increased throughout our nation,  creating conflict and violence. Across America, looters destroyed their own  neighborhoods as a form of protest. Rioters tore down statues on college campuses, in  city squares, and in our nation’s capital. Recently, we witnessed a group of  militants storm and deface the U.S. Capitol building, leaving several dead in their wake.

As we’ve seen all too often, these domestic acts of terrorism can originate from all  points of the ideological spectrum. But no matter who lights the match, it’s up to all of us  to put out the fire.

We must denounce every act of violence and terrorism – no matter the source. We must  teach our children, while reminding ourselves, that the path to policy change is through  the legislative, legal, and electoral processes. Our Founding Fathers declared and  fought for these rights over 240 years ago, and we’ve vigilantly protected them to this  day. Republicans have participated in and support non-violent protests as an effective  way to achieve social and political goals.

Let’s work together to denounce hatred and violence of any type, and from all corners of  our country.
